Expect an superb food and an amazing experience!
You may have heard the description that a restaurant is “right on the beach”; at Da Conch Shack it’s LITERAL! The majority of seating is on the fine white sand shaded by palm trees. So take of your shoes, feel the warm sand between your toes as you sip on a Bambarra Rum Punch in anticipation of these must try local favourites. Conch Salad – Here the fresh conch is diced up raw and served with diced bell peppers, onions and tomato then all tossed with fresh lime juice. Local peppers add a delightful kick but these are on the side so you can add as your bravery allows (I suggest just a smidge). First Bite: crisp citrus with the crunch of the veggies and the sweet of the conch meat. Conch Fritters – a must for those that want to try conch but are hesitant of eating it raw. Da Conch Shack conch fritters are what the locals would call “conchy” in that is has a generous portion of conch bits in each bite. A batter of flour, eggs and milk is infused with chopped conch, seasonings and finely chopped bell peppers and onions; this is then deep fried to a golden brown and served with a dipping sauce that is said to be “top secret” (one taste and you’ll see why they want to keep it to themselves). First Bite: warm and crunchy outer shell makes way to a light, fluffy and chewy centre. Doughy goodness through and through. Cracked Conch – A personal favourite of mine. The conch meat is beaten (cracked) to tenderize and large pieces are dipped in a light batter and dredged in flour before deep frying. The result is a crispy, crunchy yet tender delight that will have you looking for the next piece. Try this with tartar sauce and a generous squeeze of lime. First Bite: crunchy and super tender. Perfectly seasoned sweet taste of the conch is evident with every chew. Da Conch Shack offers a wide range of foods that are also delicious, but imo the conch has been perfected. in a word AMAZING!
